Running a breeding facility requires a lot of knowledge and compassion but most of all it requires healthy animals that are kept that way by not over breeding them. If you are planning on breeding female dogs there are many things you must learn. First decide on the breed of dog you are most interested in. Then learn as much as you can about them. The most important thing is to understand how to pick and purchase the right breeding stock. This is true whether you are breeding papered dogs or not. To start, when breeding female dogs you want to make sure the dog has good confirmation. You want to research the breed you have chosen and be sure the females you have picked are breed true. When breeding female dogs you must look carefully at them before buying one. Make sure her nose is the right length. You want to be sure that her eyes are the right distance apart and her legs are straight. Any flaws she has she will pass on to her puppies so the last thing you want is a female with uncharacteristic traits of the breed. As well you must understand that when breeding female dogs you need to make sure that you also pick a good male. Otherwise you can have the same problem. You must make sure that the male is the very best that you can find. If you are breeding papered dogs you can expect to pay a lot for your breeding female dogs and your stud, but it will pay off in the end when you become known for selling quality puppies. If this is what you want to do, breeding female dogs, you must be committed to not over breeding your animals. A female dog comes into heat about every six months but she must not be bred at each heat. That would be very unhealthy for her and will eventually result in her losing condition and producing inferior puppies. Most clubs that register dogs will not permit more than one litter to be registered yearly. This is done to keep people from over breeding their animals.
